GENERATIONS OF COMPUTER

There are Five generations of the computer each one differ each other greatly according to there size cost and power.now i will explain each of them below

1.Zeroth Generation(1791-1871)-
The first digital computer was designed by Charles Babbage an English mathematician. It had a mechanical design where wheels, gears etc were used.As this computer was slow and Unreliable this design could not really become very papular.

2.First Generation(1945-1955)-
Several tickets, letters, a solution involve which was electronic rather mechanical.Around 1945 Howard Aiken, J.Eckert and K Zuse in Germany succeeded in designing calculating machine with vacuum tubes as the central components. These machines were huge and there continued used generated a great deal of heat. The vacuum deal also used to get burnt very fast. The programing was done in machine language which could pay term on first generation language.

3.Second Generation(1955-1965)-
Around 1955, transistor were introduced in USA.The problem associated with vacuum tube vanished out the size and the cost of machine diagrammatically dwindled, reliability improved.  Assembly Language as  a second generation language, & FORTRAN , as a high level language .How ever these were batch system. The operator was continuously busy in loading or unloading cards & takes before and after the jobs.At a time only one job could run valuable CPU time was therefore wasted.

4.Third Generation(1965-1980)-
IBM announced system 360 series of computer in 1964.The system 360 Was based on integrated circuits rather than transistors with ICs, the cost and size of computer shrink and performance also improve.

5.Fourth Generation(182-till date)-
When large scale integration circuit came into existence thousands of transistors packaged in a very small area of silicon chip.A computer is made of many unit Such as CPU,memory, input output unit and so on each of which is further made of different modules such as register multiplexer and variety of other digital circuits.each of these in terms of made of various gates. these gates are implemented in digital electronics using transistor. As the size of chi containing thousand of such transistor shrank obviously size of computer shrank.
