WHEN TO ADD MORE RAM

WHEN TO ADD MORE RAM

These things depend on the programs installed and the programs that you are going to install in your PC. There are other factors on which memory depends but if you are going to install a program than you must know the requirements of the program and how much memory it needs. If you are installing a program with memory requirement of 1 GB and you are having 512 MB of memory installed on your mother board than you are not fair to the program because you are not feeding it properly. It will not starve due to low memory but will decrease the performance of your PC to fulfill its needs. This will lead to loss of performance.

BASICALLY, memory is of two types that is installed on PC, One is RAM that is primary memory and other is the secondary memory the HARD DISK. These both memories are used to store data but the difference is that RAM is volatile and the HARD DISK is non-volatile. volatile means hen the data is lost when the computer is restarted.Secondary memory is not a lot responsible for the performance of the PC but RAM is truly the performance part of the PC. A PC with high RAM can do much better than PC with low RAM.

The basic things that happen when there is shortage of memory are

Your computer runs at snail's speed and you are trying to make it faster but can't help yourself than this is a clear indication that you need more memory. In this situations you see that you PC is not responding fast and when you minimize your windows you see the minimization process to be frame by frame like a raster scan. At this there is no need to call any professional because he would also say to increase your memory.

Second the programs you tr to run takes more than the load time to run on your PC. Sometimes they start quickly and respond strangely or even don't respond at all and the screen becomes fade. This is the problem that arises when you do not feed your program properly.

Third the use of your virtual memory program increases and your PC every time is trying to free your primary memory for other programs to load and work. This will lead to use of more virtual memory any in this case your secondary memory(HARD DISK) is unnecessarily used to increase performance and this memory requirement takes a lot of memory.

Fourth is the major and the very irritating memory problem. In this your PC leads to failure of generated commands and give errors like out of memory. The screen seems to flicker and PC restarts again and again. On restart PC gives you option to run in safe mode.

Increasing memory is always beneficial than to work on a slow PC. And always remember the memory requirement majorly depends on your operating system requirements so use that operating system that suits your memory.
